A warm plate of Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas, perfect for tacos or burritos, seasoned with citrus and spices for a delicious flavor.

  • 3 pounds pork shoulder
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pork by placing the shoulder chunks in the slow cooker.
  2. Make the marinade by mixing orange juice, lime juice, chicken broth, minced garlic, chili powder, ground cumin, dried oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  3. Season the pork with the marinade and add the diced onion and bay leaves.
  4. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours until the pork is tender.
  5. Shred the pork using two forks and let it soak up the juices.
  6. Crisp it up by broiling the shredded pork on a baking sheet for 3 to 5 minutes.
  7. Serve with warm tortillas, fresh cilantro, lime wedges, and your favorite toppings.

Notes

Pork shoulder works best, but pork loin can be used for a leaner option. Adjust spice levels to your preference.
