  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Red and green food coloring
  • Candy cane bits for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add in the vanilla and peppermint extracts.
  4. Gradually add the flour, salt, and baking powder, mixing until fully combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half and tint one half with red food coloring and the other half with green.
  6. Roll out small pieces of red and green dough into strips and twist them together.
  7. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until just set.
  9. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with candy cane bits.
  10. Allow to cool on a wire rack before serving.
