Delightful squares of fluffy beignets with a touch of sweetness and a buttery texture, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar or glaze for topping

Instructions

  1. Whisk the dry ingredients in a large bowl until combined.
  2. Combine the wet ingredients in another bowl and stir until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  5. Roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness and cut into squares.
  6. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or large pot.
  7. Fry the squares in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  8. Remove beignets from oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Let cool slightly and drizzle with glaze or dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
